Minutes for April 16, 2014 Selectmen’s Meeting

Selectmen’s Meeting Agenda

The meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM.

Selectmen Meeting Minutes April 9, 2014
Approved 4-0-1



  • Discussion held between 5:00 & 7:00 p.m.
At 5:00 PM the Board met with Karen McNaughton from Pine Tree Waste/Casella to sign the new 5-year Solid Waste Curbside Collection & Roll-Off Transportation Contract.

The Board spent the rest of their time going over this year’s Warrant.

  • Email from Dave Francoeur, Deputy Director York County EMA – Re:  Driver’s License Renewal Scam
The Town was notified of this scam that involves a website that is not associated with any government agency.  To renew your driver’s license online through the State of Maine’s Rapid Renewal, you should enter www.maine.gov/online/bmv/dir directly into the address bar on your web browser and not into a search engine bar.

  • Reminder from our Tax Collector, LeeAnn Pratt; Because of the weekend and holiday, property taxes are due Tuesday, April 22, 2014.  Interest will start accruing May 1, 2014 on unpaid taxes.

        
  • Review of Projects and Issues
Selectman Harmon has been working on the Warrant.  She mentioned that the Board met with the Budget Committee last night to present the Administration Budget.

Selectman Booker attended the school Budget Advisory Committee meetings last Thursday and again on Saturday.  She has been working on budgets and the Warrant, and mentioned that she also attended the town Budget Committee Meeting last night.

On Monday night Selectman Burns attended the 12 Town Group Meeting in Waterboro.

Selectman Emery has been coming in every day.  He also attended the 12 Town Group Meeting Monday night and has been working on the Selectmen’s annual report.

E.O. 131404021 – An order to approve 16 hours of vacation time for Tashia Pinkham.

  • Next Meeting of the Board
The Budget Committee will be meeting for a Workshop at 6:30 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the EMA building.

The Board of Selectmen will be meeting with the Budget Committee on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 6:30 PM at Town Hall.
Board of Selectmen Meeting Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 7:00 PM.

There will be a Public Hearing Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 7:00 PM, regarding a Liquor License Application renewal for Skip’s Lounge located at 288 Narragansett Trail.

Nomination papers are available from the Town Clerk’s Office for the following positions:

  • Two – Selectmen, Assessors and Overseers of the Poor for 3 years
  • One – Town Clerk for 3 years
  • One – Director, Maine School Administrative District No. 6 for 3 years
  • Two – Planning Board Members for 3 years
  • One – Planning Board Member for 2 years
  • Two – Budget Committee Members for 3 years
Selectman Emery read all non-budgetary articles for inclusion in the Warrant for the June 10, 2014 Annual Town Meeting.

All candidate nomination papers must be filed in the Town Clerk’s Office by 4:30 PM Monday, April 28, 2014.

The Town Office will be closed Monday, April 21, 2014 for Patriots’ Day.

The Transfer Station will be closed Tuesday the 22nd for their holiday.

There will be a Community Potluck lunch Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 11:30 AM at Buxton Town Hall.  Contact Tashia Pinkham, Recreation Director at 207-929-8381 for more   information.


  • Public Comments and Questions
Chief Grovo updated the Board on a recent burglary investigation he is working on.  The Chief reported that the officers have covered a lot of ground and they are working with the District Attorney and a Detective from Gorham.  Chief Grovo said is confident that they are headed in the right direction and working together to solve this crime.
